First things First. This post is dedicated to AT thru-hiker Last Call (who is hiking with Cold Cut, not pictured). On the hike up from NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center, mile 136.5), CornDog decides he’s going to go off and loose his pack. This is about 2.5 miles into the day’s hike, all climbing. This is not noticed right away, and Water Boy has no idea when he lost it. And CornDog hates carrying a pack, so he’s not talking. I’m about 10 min. behind them when I get the call, so I start hiking back down the mountain to see if I can locate this bright red pack. No luck. I put a message out on the Far Out Trail App, just in case someone finds it. And that’s exactly what happen. Last Call found it!
We’ve passed Last Call a few times on trail, and I saw him earlier that morning at the NOC. I’m so glad he was behind us, but I don’t think CornDog was.
Speaking of the NOC, it’s this wonderful outdoors activity facility. The Nantahala river runs right through their campus, which it puts to good use. They offer lodging of all types, rafting and kayaking (probably much more). It’s quite the spread. The AT runs through the campus.
More photos from the trail today.
This is an example of another form of trail magic. This is just left at the trail head. Very nice people down here, I tell ya.
Closing out this post with a photo of Warrior Princess taking a nero (partial day off). She really knows how to have her dinner AND relax while eating. Yep, her trail bowl is a Disney Princess bowl, thank you Dollar General Store.
I’m loving following along on this trek from the comfort of my warm bed. Great photos and great stories. Stay safe and keep going!!!
