I’ll start off this post with this guy. He’s some type of moth, I guess. I’ll need to look him up for more specifics. Look how big he is, spanning almost two standard building bricks. He may also be a she.
Just down the road from the Kimberling Creek trail head is this Amish furniture store and deli. We are out in what is referred to as “the middle of nowhere” (no intentional slight to the locals), so finding this business was a surprise. It’s pretty fantastic. Check out the link below for more info and photos.
Dismal Falls is about 2.5 miles up trail, .3 miles down a side trail. I think it gets passed by most thru hikers who are trying to put on the miles. It’s a nice place to take a siesta, soak your feet. When I got there I was the only hiker, but there were several fishermen.
CornDog and Warrior Princess found a pond
Warrior Princess is NOT taking in the view. This is her “I see something I should chase, and I know I’m going to get yelled at, so should I just do it? I thank I will” pose.
“Hey you. Yeah, I’m talking to you. Don’t just leave me down here!”
Waterboy takes a break, CornDog squeezes in a quick nap. He has no idea how cute he is.
Peering down at Pearisburg, VA. Morning mist and clouds, not smog.
I think I’m getting better with the zoom feature on my camera.
The AT doesn’t actually go through Pearisburg, as it did in Hot Springs and Damascus. It does come pretty close, and one of the crossings is at the Pearisburg Cemetery.
How many cemeteries or grave sites have we hiked past now? I could easily construct a Graves of the AT calendar with just the sites we’ve seen so far. We’ve still 10 more states to hike.
This one, like many others, is tucked away in the forest, somewhat overgrown. Kind of somber, and also beautiful. Captain Pearisburg, who gave the land for the community, has a memorial here.
We completed a 1.5 hr resupply is Pearisburg. This consists of:
- Dollar General stop
- Post office pickup
- Drive through at Dairy Queen
- Use the nice bathroom at the Food Lion
