Days 45 – 47, Walker Pass to Kennedy Meadows mile 702

Song of the post – “Hurt” by Johnny Cash

We completed a resupply in Ridgecrest, out of necessity spent a couple days there. What can be said about this desert town? Well it’s terribly hot in June, it’s on the edge of the Mojave desert, there is a lot of concrete here, and it has a strong military presence. Let’s get back to hiking

We started out back on Walker Pass for this 50 mile section. Started about 3:30 pm. We hope to get the 50 miles done in 3 days/2 nights.

We climbed for 9 miles. Wonderful views, breezy and the last good day of hiking. After today…the heat, Good Lord The HEAT.

plaque kinda in the middle of nowhere

Day 2 started out promising, cool weather and lovely views.

That’s not desert anymore. Wrong!!

And this was a fun marker to come across.

25% of 2650? Well its pretty big, right?

After that it was pretty much climbing in the heat for the rest of the day. My picture taking is sparse and unimaginative.

Day 3 was more of the same except we met alot of other hikers, which is part of why we’re doing this.

Also, we climbed to 8000 ft, we soaked in a river, and passed the 700 mile marker.

And we made it to Kennedy Meadows. Here we will resupply for 6 days, prepare for the mountains, especially our Mount Whitney climb.

My sister-in-law compared this greeting as being similar to the cheers you get when running a marathon. That is spot on. It felt great.

We all worked so hard to get to this deck
