Day 25- April 4th (zero in Asheville, NC)

Short post today. A day off trail isn’t all relaxation. There’s a little kicking back, but it’s mostly preparing to go back on the trail. Tasks include:

  • Pack repair. Sewing and gluing
  • Organizing the car
  • It’s April, so working on taxes
  • Ironing out new health insurance, because someone is reaching a special age
  • REI trip for more freeze dried food. BTW, buy 8 or more and you get 10% off
  • and doing laundry. We do ours in the motel room. On the PCT we used whatever soap was free with the room. We’ve stepped it up by traveling with our own.

Asheville, NC is a really nice small city. It’s tucked away in the Blur Ridge Mts. I think it’s the Blue Ridge, they use that name a lot around here. It has a lot of similarities with Boulder, Colorado. An excellent pedestrian friendly downtown. Lots of lush parks. And the Biltmore Estate.

It cost 90.00 to get into the estate, so we passed that on by. But we spent a couple hours trying to find a back road, access road, some forgotten way to get in. No luck. But this sneaky, offhand adventure granted us a tour of some lovely neighborhoods. Asheville gets 2 thumbs 👍 up.
