Days 22 & 23, April 1st & 2nd, 2024

A couple days of hiking, between Devils Fork and Spivey Gaps, mile 333.4, throw in Sam’s Gap along the way. Great hiking days, as we got some rain and it cooled off. We’re moving into northern North Carolina. Doing the math, we should be into Virginia in about a week and 1/2.

Captured some lovely nature shots over the last two days.

I came across a couple more graves. Waterboy and I have been discussing this, wondering why we are seeing so many resting spots. It must have something to do with the age of the trail, prior to being officially designated The AT. Some the dates preceed the established trail.

We came across this wonderful trail magic left on the trail. Iced sodas and fudge Little Debbie’s cakes. People have pretty big hearts.

Warrior Princess and CornDog rehydrating at a picturesque water hole.

I came across this little bit of whimsy hiking back to the trail head. Not sure if it’s intended to be trail art, or something else. It was placed in the hollow base of a tree with intent. I enjoyed the surprise, and hope to see more. If I had not been hiking an out and back, it would have been missed.

It was along this section Waterboy noticed his shoes might need to be replaced. An order was placed, and we should get new shoes in Erwin, TN. Ordered from REI, and sent general deliver. When he switches them out, the old shoes will have accrued roughly 350 miles of hiking.

That’s it for now.
