Song of the post – “The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA” by Donna Fargo, dedicated to Billygoat / Molly who’s always smiling.
Today was an early one, Cliff on trail at 5:30 to summit San Jacinto peak. I left 1/2 hr later to hike around the peak, We would meet up 3 hrs and 5 miles later. My morning hiking view.

We would drop down about 7000 ft today to our final camp, and most of the day would be sun exposed, so lots of water stops and filtering required while we were up top. We would end up carrying 5 liters today, enough for hiking, cooking and hiking the next morning.

Our hike today was just short of 20 miles, and we were distracted all day by beautiful plant life,

So 12 hrs after we started this morning we came to this nice marker.

Exhausted, we set up camp, and stretched out.

We discovered a tragedy while preparing diner, somewhere on the trail Cliff had left his spoon. So we are sharing mine until it can be replaced.

Good luck James and Cliff on your through hike of the PCT. My wife Angela, works for Prometheus at Essex House and The Merrick in Portland. I sent her the link to share with you Cheryl Strayed “Wild” online interview sponsored by Outside magazine.
I used to work at REI for over 10 years, so I love the outdoors and admire anybody who hikes. Have a safe and fun trip. May your gear always be working and your bodies always be healthy.
