Song of the post – “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham
Very poor coverage in this section, so combining next two days,
Today will be first 20 plus (per the PCT) day.
Out of Little Jimmy camp by 5:35. Most of the camp is still sleeping.
Early morning climb of Mt Williamson saddle (not going to the summit, no time nor energy). Sounding repetitive, but more exceptional views.
First forced trail diversion today. Short highway hike around an endangered frog habitat. It was actually nice, hiking on the pavement felt good on the feet. Love the sure footedness.
Maybe had the best trail magic experience on the highway. This is Janelle. She was parked on the side of the road, with chairs for us, serving breakfast. That being hot coffee and warm egg/sausage quiche. WTF!!! I was prepared for just filtered water and a Cliff bar. We sat around with other hikers and had the nicest conversation. Thank you Janelle, wherever you are in Riverside.
Tesla is another hiker I met who is from Germany and is attempting to hike the trail in 3 months. That is incredible. Why Tesla? Well, according to him, he is fast and silent when he hikes.
A highlight if this long, long day is getting to the 400 mile marker. There are actually many markers here, very artistic.
Met several Oregon hikers on the 3rd day to Acton. Call outs to Swift and a special call out to two great guys from the Eugene and Albany areas, Bob and Glen. Really enjoyed our conversations along the hike. Hope to see more of them. They are brother-in-laws who have been working on the PCT for 11 yrs. Need to get a picture of them.
Endangered frog habitat!!!! That’s a big nope from me. Yikes!!!
The views are spectacular. Can you take a picture of a bear box please?
400 miles is so impressive. So proud of you.
