Song of the post – “A horse with no name” by America

Tehachapi is the last or next to last supply stop before you get to Kennedy Meadows, which is the unofficial end of the desert. Knowing this, most PCT hikers take a Zero here, to resupply and lick their trail wounds.

Tehachapi is a town that embraces nostalgia. It’s evident in the architecture (lots of western design), in the businesses (antique stores and classic eating spots line the streets), in the common areas (train depot parks, and railroad theme plazas) and in the local art (lavish historic murals).

We got into town for Memorial Day. Tehachapi appears to have a strong military heritage, which was on display during the Memorial Day Parade.

Stop waving and throw me
some candy. Come on.
Look, a doggie in the window

We also were lucky enough to time our visit during a town wide swing dancing festival. Spectators and participants were all decked out in period attire. It was a joy to watch.

Peeking through the fence.

Now its down to business. We will resupply here for 4-5 days of hiking…

and also enjoy a few civilized comforts.

What? I will not defend
my bubble bath.

At the end of our stay, if I had to rate it, Tehachapi would get 5 ⭐️. I don’t think it would ever be a destination for me, but I would certainly make it part of an extended trip. They have everything a PCT hiker could really need. It’s also cooler than the surrounding desert, and has an abundance of friendly/helpful people. Also,… they had ICEEs at the movie theater, and were showing the new Downton Abby film. 👍👍
