After some time off in Philadelphia, we’re back in the “Green Tunnel”. The humidity is a bit of a beast, and hiking in the forest is nice for keeping the sun off, but it’s also like a steam bath under the green canopy. Also, the lovely meadows and fields are non existent here. In regards to the AT, Pennsylvanian has an alias. It’s also known as Rocksylvania, and after hiking this section, well…Duh!
To be clear, these 3 signs are from the same property. I’ll admit, hikers can be a bit much…and boundaries need to be set. Or maybe these signs are just left over from Halloween.
This sign doesn’t reference anything of real importance, I’m just partial to seeing Appalachian Trail on a sign, any sign.
This photo is a reminder that the trail isn’t always dirt and rock. Pennsylvania has a staggering number of main, secondary and back roads that impact the trail. Man made trail constructs are pretty frequent, and really well done. This crossing (mile 1158.3) is lush trail on both sides, and crosses a very busy 2 lane road out in the middle of nowhere.
This is a photo of the Susquehanna River from on high. This vantage point is popular in AT videos. Kinda cool to be here to photograph it. That bridge (The Clark’s Ferry Bridge)to the left is a very hot, exposed foot crossing.
I think this is one of my favorite photos. I just lucked up with this shot. I almost walked right past him, he was quite small. He gets a name; Billy the frog.
Photographing a butterfly with an IPhone is a thankless job. I ran around, cursing, trying to sneak up on this little guy. If people were watching, I’m sure they thought I was insane.
Warrior Princess in her self applied camouflage.
More turtles. I don’t think we saw one turtle on the Pacific Crest Trail, and up here it’s often a Testudines highway. I looked up that turtle term up, BTW.
These photos of the somewhat interesting rocks and boulders are not random, this is the hiking trail. Rocksylvania in all its glory. OUCH!!!
A lovely break in the rocks. All that green, all those ferns. It’s like being back in Oregon.
WaterBoy found him a salamander. Pretty colors.
🦁⭐️🙄1200 miles down🥈⚜️😊
Ending this post with some exceptional views. Being able to look out at this first hand makes enduring all the humidity, struggling through all the rocks, and fighting off all the turtles, worth while.
