Cliff’s Summit of Mount Whitney, mile 766

Song of the post – “Wild World” by Cat Stevens”

Mount Whitney is not technically on the PCT, but it’s pretty close. You hike past it, and there is an exit trail (at mile 766) for those who wish to add summiting the mountain to their hike. Based on what I saw, most hikers do this. Cliff did, I did not.

The diversion to Whitney adds a 16 mile round trip to your hike, as well as about 4200 ft of elevation.
Why would a hiker add this substantial diversion to their hike? Here is a link to Whitney’s Wiki page so you can read up.
